Hydrogel Injections: Everything You Need to Know

Looking for an instant perk-me-up for your tush? A lot of women have shunned more convention butt surgery like buttocks implants in favor of convenient butt injections.

But convenience can come at a cost – despite their popularity, these injections have also been gaining notoriety in the news with reports of women who have died from the toxins present in different butt injections.

While buying butt injections are now illegal in the US there is still a thriving black market for those who are looking for quick fixes. Let’s shine the spotlight on a specific type of injection: the Hydrogel butt injection.

What are Hydrogel Butt Injections?

In general, the appeal of butt injections is due to the fact that they are a less painful way of obtaining a bigger butt without the long process of surgical butt implants, and for a slightly lower price range. For hydrogel injections in particular, the butt is injected with a solution of 97.5% water and polyacrylamide. Unlike having a big cut from a surgical butt implant, there are hardly any marks left when you undergo hydrogel injections.

There is only a minimal incision made to insert a cannula which can make the fat hydrogel travel faster to the intended area. Once the hydrogel is injected it serves as a filler (much like the silicone in butt implants) for the buttocks. Note that this process is far from perfect, sometimes the butt has to go through a number of injections to obtain the correct shape the customer desires.

The popularity of these treatments also stems from the fact that there is minimal recovery time needed when you get hydrogel injections. There is minimal swelling, and the worst is usually over after 2 days. Results are also fast, with results being noticeable within 2 weeks.

Are Hydrogel Butt Injections Worth It?

So you know that these injections are typically scar-free and produce almost immediate results.

Yet, we are STRONGLY against them. Why?

Because these little butt plumpers comes with huge downsides.

For starters – these injections are illegal. It’s not just because of the process, the actual product being injected is still under review of the FDA because the manufacturing process is unregulated, and there are not enough stability tests on the products to ensure the customer’s safety.

Some preliminary research has been showing that while polyacrylamide is relatively safe, the ingredients used in the hydrogel butt injection might also contain the neurotoxin acrylamide.

Even if the product says it doesn’t there are research studies showing that the polyacrylamide in hydrogel butt injections might later on de-polymerize and still turn into acrylamide which can poison the body. This is not a risk you want to take for the benefit of having a bigger butt – especially when there are better, safer options.

Aside from the danger posed by the product itself, the FDA also warns against self-administering these injections. There are a bunch of so-called Hydrogel Kits in the black market that encourage you to inject your bum area regularly.

The FDA is doing a crackdown for this because the careless usage of potentially toxic products can lead to many unnecessary deaths.

If knowing that hydrogel butt injections are both potentially toxic and downright illegal in the United States does not dissuade you, here are a few more reasons why it might be smarter to steer clear of hydrogel butt injections.

For one, they’re pretty expensive. A single shot of hydrogel costs $300 – $500 dollars, and you have to note that some individuals need multiple shots to achieve their desired effect.

And the expense is definitely not worth it when you take into consideration the fact that they’re not even close to permanent! The plumping, enhancing effects last for only 12 – 18 months at the most.

There’s also the difficulty factor – since hydrogel butt injections are totally illegal in the US, you’ll be turning to sellers in third world countries and getting risky hydrogel injections that are of questionable quality at best.

Remember medical laws are laxer outside the United States, so you might have a hard time finding someone accountable if there are botch-ups in your procedure.

So What are My Options?

As of now the only fat injection method that is safe to perform in the US is the Brazilian Butt Lift surgery, which involves harvesting fat from certain parts of the body and reallocating it to your butt. The safety of the substance being injected into your body is a no brainer since it will still be your own fat that will be returned inside your body.

The procedure is a bit more invasive, only because they have to do a liposuction treatment on you before they can inject the body fat they have and inject it to their patients. However the pros of this treatment far outweighs the losses.

For one your body is less likely to have an adverse reaction since it’s the solution injected to the body is already your fat.
